Back for an encore performance this season! Hosted by Victoria Shaw, Under The Covers has become a recurring highlight at the legendary Birdland Jazz Club in New York City, featuring a wide variety of top-selling songwriters and musical acts from across the pop, rock and country worlds, and offering intimate acoustic performances of huge hit songs - along with the little-known stories behind them. You never know who may show up to join Victoria Under the Covers! Victoria performed at Merrimack Hall in August 2011 to a sold-out crowd. Now she's back with new guest artists in December!
Gary Burr
From his first pop hit, "Love's Been a Little Bit Hard On Me" by Juice Newton in the early 80's, to his recent induction into the Country Music Songwriter's Hall of Fame Gary Burr has been one of the most successful and honored songwriters in history.
33 top forty hits, 24 top tens, 14 number ones, Gary's career has spanned pop, country... even Latin hits such as Ricky Martin and Christina Aguilera's smash duet "Nobody Wants To Be Lonely." He has been honored with Songwriter of the Year awards by Billboard Magazine, ASCAP, and the Nashville Songwriter's Association of America. One of the rare breed who writes hits alone as well as co-writing, Gary is a favorite collaborator of a collection of writing icons such as Carole King, Richard Marx, Don Schlitz, Victoria Shaw, Kenny Loggings... even Ringo Starr!
Mark Hudson
Born in Portland, Oregon, Mark first came on the scene in a band with his brothers, the Hudson Brothers. The Hudson Brothers had two top-20 hits, "So You Are A Star" and "Rendezvous" produced by Bernie Taupin for Elton John's Rocket Records. The Hudson Brothers were frequent guests on the Sonny and Cher Show and in 1974 became Sonny and Cher's summer replacement. In 1975 the Hudson Brothers Show evolved into the Hudson Brothers Razzle Dazzle Show, which was one of the first live-action variety shows in the 70s mixing music and comedy.After the brothers broke up, Mark went on to learn music production and successful songwriting from the legendary Phil Ramone and assisted him with production on Flashdance. He began to get cuts on albums by artists including Cher, Michael Sembello and Bobby Caldwell.Mark has produced and written with and for many multi-platinum artists including Aerosmith, Burt Bacharach, Carole King, Ringo Starr, Ozzy Osbourne, Celine Dion, Jon Bon Jovi, Hanson, the Baja Men, Alice Cooper, Boy Zone, LeAnn Rimes and the late Harry Nilsson.
